Egyptian Common Area Empty Egyptian Common Area

Post by Green 2/17/2015, 6:16 pm

The common area of cabin twenty-seven consisted of tables and chairs scattered around the room. A statue of Ra, the sun god, was placed in the middle of the room. It was about six feet tall with hieroglyphics enscribed in it. Pictures of the gods were hanging up on the tan walls, starting with a protrait of Orsis and ending with one of Set. If you look up, you'll be able to see Nut, painted a dark blue with gold stars, looking down at the room. Now if you lower your head, you'll see the Earth god Geb, the color of green with brown thrown in there. Against the back wall is a bookshelve filled with Anicent texts imported from The House of Life.

Hezekiah sat there, reading up on Egypt's creation history. It was quiet cool seeing how similar and different Greek and Egyptian Creation stories were. The demigod wore a Camp Half-Blood t-shirt, black gym shorts, long white socks that stopped at his ankles, and a pair of black Jordon's. He had planned to head to the basket ball court after he was done studying and practicing his Greek writing. Most demigod's brains at camp were hardwared for Anicent Greek, but it was different for the Egyptain's. Their brains were hardwared for Hieroglyphics. It was probably different for Norse demigod too.

Benji had spent nearly all day either napping or trying to clean up her bunk area, as was custom on days when she was free from chores or other camp activities. Such was the life of any demigod in general. (She didn't understand how anyone could put up with their cabin activity schedule, half those things were useless in the long run and she hated being partnered with some of the other cabins. Namely, the Norse or Ares kids.)

She was sitting on her bunk now amidst a pile of freshly washed laundry, clad in a pair of ducky pajama pants and a faded old black t-shirt, hair looking disheveled with nap time flopping. Frankly, she didn't want to fold the rest of that mess -- so she nonchalantly got up, put on a pair of sandals, and went into the commons area of the cabin, go read something or mess with one of her cabinmates.

Upon entering, she could see one of the other kids, Harold or something, at one of the tables reading... something or another. She didn't know. Benji went to a bookshelf and began to scan the rows of scrolls and books there, frowning as she said over her shoulder, "Whatcha reading there?"

[ooc: Sorry for the late reply, have been busy.]

By now, Hezekiah had read the Creation story, Egyptian version and was now reading up on his gods. He did this often, making sure he showed some type of respect to the deities of Egypt. The demigod clicked his tongue as he ran his finger through the words of the page. Hathor, Ra, Bastest, Toth, Orisis...Set. So, so many gods with so many different spheres of control, how did the ancients keep up with them?

Hezekiah heard someone walk into the common room, but was too involved in his book to greet them. While turning the page, a feminine voice asked him something. "Uh, just a book on our gods and such, assuming you're also an Egyptian."

Benji glanced over her shoulder to frown at the boy for a second, before turning back to the shelf and picking up a book on the discovery of King Tut's tomb. Always a fun read.

"Why else would I be in the cabin if I weren't an Egyptian kid?" she asked him casually as she flipped to a random page, something about the supposed curse befalling most of those who had dared to enter the tomb. The hieroglyphics were handwritten, probably translated and transcribed from a book at the library. (Was she surprised to know about that? No. Stupid people, poking their heads in sacred places and trying to take out all the stuff. They sort of deserved it.) "Added on to the fact that I'm your cabin counselor, I dunno. What other reason?"

She certainly didn't look much like it in her pajamas, but that was no matter. That seemed to be more of an honorary title nowadays than anything practical.

Hezekiah blushed a bit from embarrassment, but was hidden by his mocha skin complexion. "Sorry, I'm new to camp so I don't really know how much of these things work." He stated with a light chuckle, moving his hands over the page's text, reading it in detail. The pictures of the Egyptian gods made him smile. Having the heads of animals was something unique to these gods only. After reading the page he was on, he looked up at the girl. "Cabin counselor? Are you a child of an important god then? Or does it matter?"

"Not really, no." Ow, papercut. Benji licked her poor hurt forefinger and then turned the page with her middle finger and thumb, turning back to face the boy. "Just seniority counts and all. I've been here for too long, got roped in to this."

She looked at the boy for a second, frowning as she absently played with the corner of the page she was on -- about how the researchers thought King Tut had died, all that speculation that frankly seemed redundant after the tenth "he broke his leg!" statement. She had seen him around before, but not very often in the past... several months. Could she even remember seeing him half a year ago? "When'd you get to camp?"

Hezekiah gave her a single nod. "Ah, I see." The demigod closed his book and got up, going to it put back on the bookshelf. He slid it on the self before going back to his seat.

"I've been at camp for about two week or so." He answered, looking at his fellow cabin mate. The last fourteen days had been a roller coaster of confusion for Hezekiah. Now knowing not only did the Egyptian gods exist, but also the Greek and Norse ones as well. What other gods were out there that he didn't know about. "I'm Hezekiah Abui by the way."

"Benji Acerbi, daughter of Kuk. Nice to have you here." Well golly gee, Chiron had never told her to update her roster with any new kids recently. She slid into the seat opposite him at the table, plopping the book down spine-first with a weird mix of a clunk and thud noise. "Who's your god parent, by the way? Chiron hasn't given me any updates on new campers in a while, so sorry if I seem pushy. Gotta update my rosters for cabin inspection and attendance and all."

Maybe all the Titan drama had thrown off the centaur's schedule or something; it certainly had wreaked havoc on the campers' daily lives preparing for war and recovering from it.

Hezekiah gave her a small smile, crossing his right leg over the left, folding his hands. "Hm, my mom is Serqet." He answered, shifting in his chair. It was a bit warm in the cabin, but nothing Hezekiah wasn't used to. He had visited Cairo a couple of years back which redefined the meaning of "hot".

"It's alright, no need to apologize." The Egyptian demigod cleared his throat, glancing around at the poartits of the gods that hung on the wall. "You said your god parent was Kuk? Isn't he the god of shadows? I think I read up on him..." He quickly grabbed the closed book, flipping through the pages, making sure not to miss it.

Serqet? Scorpions. Benji could name a few off the top of her head, but most of them were long gone now. "Right you are, kid. Shadows and frogs and snakes. More well-read than some of our other cabin mates." She made a mental note to write his name down on her list before she went to get food or finish folding clothes -- or not. That was so much effort.

She shut her book with a sigh and leaned back in her chair, drumming her fingers on the table. Kid looked nice enough, so she wouldn't expect to get a notice about his shenanigans anytime soon. "Have much trouble getting to camp?"

[ooc: Notably Kuk is basically a creator god, so I'm gonna remake her this weekend with a new parent lmao]

    OOC: Lol okay

BIC :The Egyptian demigod smiled some at the fact that he was making a good first impression on his fellow cabin mate. The cabin counselor to be exact. "Thank you." Hezekiah sat up straighter in his seat and looked back over at Benji.

"No, no." He exhaled, the continued. "Nothing like that. I've just been here, the library, and the forest for some monster hunting." Hezekiah answered and moistened his lips. "In all honesty, I should really head out to the arena for some training."

"Never too early to do that," Benji noted, crossing her legs and accidentally hitting her knee on the underside of the table. She grimaced and settled down in her seat again, drumming her fingers on the book cover in front of her. "I can give you pointers and all, if you need me to. Did you get a permanent weapon already?"

She felt like a broken record, going through the reptitive motions of introducing a new kid to camp life and trying to help him/her/them adjust to this magical life. She could remember her first days in camp, stuck in the Hermes cabin -- until she got claimed by an Egyptian god, of all things, so that no one really knew how to deal with her. Egyptian and Norse kids were rare and, thus, outsiders to these Greeks; her own three cousins tended not to interact with her very much, although that may be a personal fault of her own rather than these Greek/Egyptian-Norse divide.
