Valerie had waited till the late hours, lying on her back in her bed starring up at the ceiling of the Apollo cabin. She failed to drum up enough support with the other campers to send a party to search for Fredrick. Her friend may be dead yet Valerie still wanted to know for certain if he had fallen or if he was still alive. In the case of the latter she planned to rescue him and bring him back safely to Camp Half-blood. Most of the other campers probably didn't think that Valerie would sneak out at night, her night vision being terrible. Yet that was precisely why she decided to go alone on her private mission to find her lost friend.
Leaving in the middle of the night would be completely unexpected. Silently, moving like a little tiny mouse she climbed out of her bed, sliding her feet into her black trainers, pausing only to grab her bow, a quiver of arrows and a small rucksack containing a few basic supplies, bottle of water, change of clothes, money both mortal and drachma. Crucially she lacked any Ambrosia but Valerie did not wish to take any in case it drew suspicion to her cause.
Valerie managed to sneak out of her cabin, it was easier once she was outside the daughter of Apollo could use the various structures, buildings and trees to hide behind or disguise herself. Soon she managed to reach the hill. Once she got over that, it would be just a small matter of getting to Vegas, finding Fredrick then getting back to Camp Half-blood in time for dinner.
Assuming of course it all went to plan and no one died or got captured along the way, or no one prevented her from leaving the camp now to go on what some might call a fool's errand.
She could not just leave him behind though if he was still alive. Fredrick would come back for her, just like Max would have had he not bought the farm near Vegas. Valerie could not abandon her friend whilst she still believed him to be alive and well, she was so he might be.
That alone was proof enough that she should try again. Her first attempt at such a task, failed spectacularly, this time Val hoped for there to be better success. Pausing to look back at the Camp she began to ascend the hill...
