Ker walked Liane to her bunk.
I was already nodding off by the time we got to my bed. I had been thinking about that boy I had met today. He wasn't too friendly with me, but Ker wasn't very happy about it.
"Good?" Ker asked.
I nodded and fell asleep.
Ker smiled, knowing she was safe and headed out.

I walk in, find Laine's bed, and read the note I was going to drop off:
Hey Laine,
I was just wondering if you could help me become friends with Ker better. I mean, he's my own half-brother and we should at least be on the same side, you know? Maybe you could convince him to go to the Deadly Forest tomorrow and we can take down monsters together as siblings and as friends. I've seen how he can fight, and he can be dangerous when he wants to be, but I'm confident that we can use that on monsters instead of on each other. Thanks for all the help!
p.s. Could you ask Elizabelle if she'd want to go to Thalia's Pine tomorrow night, while me and Ker are away? I really think I like her (but don't tell her that!)

I inconspicuously put the note under her pillow after reading and rereading it. I quietly walk out hoping no one noticed me.

I sat on my bunk and thought about things. I didn't necessarily like it around here. There wasn't any real structure or rules. Sure I had a few friends, but it didn't seem to matter if we couldn't think of something to do most of the time. I wanted to be back on the marching field again. With people I really related to. I wanted to be making music with them. I wanted to be doing something really spectacular and here, I just wasn't filling that quota. I sighed.
If I left, I think I would miss some people. I would miss Ker, definitely. He kind of needed me. I would miss Kyler and Anders teasing each other. I would miss Jace acting strong, but shying away from Marcus. I would miss Marcus and being so dimwitted. I would miss Tori's cruel jokes. I sighed.
But there was so much I missed back home. I missed all my friends in the band. I missed playing the flute. I missed my mom so very much. I missed getting up in the morning to go to rehearsal. I missed being a part of something great.
I didn't know what to do. I guess I'll just stay put for a while. I'll be a good girl and train my hardest here so I can learn to defend myself. I'll try to do better than I have. I just want to feel accomplished. That's all. I sighed. The sun had set so I lay my head down and slept.
