Once in nineteen fourty-two,
A battle went on, and no one knew.
The cause, a promise that was kept,
During a battle in World War Two.
A soldier in the army,
Quiet young at twenty-one,
He had no wife, he had no kids,
At home his girlfriend was waiting for him.
Another soldier was his friend,
Still young at twenty-five.
He had a wife,
And now a daughter,
Who he had not yet seen.
Two years later,
Both were transefered to the skies.
In their jets, they stopped Japan,
From dropping their little bombs.
Starting with five,
Now they only had two.
Just the soldier and his friend.
Now the soldier, he knew something,
He knew how they could win.
So his friend could drop the A-Bomb,
And he knew his friend would live.
Though the price was high,
But the cost was higher.
He had so much to loose,
But his friend had more.
So he set his final course.
And as he flew he sat and thought.
Two years ago, when he first came,
He never would have carred.
But he always had a promise,
He'd save a life one day.
And as his course came was almost through,
There was one thing he never knew:
He'd save the life of his best friend,
And perhaps the whole American continant.
The soldier's life came to an end,
As he ramed into the planes from Japan.
And his friend, he dropped the A-Bomb,
And the Allies won the war,
And a father met his daughter,
And the soldier won the war.
