Bastille Day, the day the French populace stormed the Bastille prison, a sign of the Third Estate's less-than-sympathetic sentiments to the French nobility.
Today, the French Republic is a major world power, boasting the sixth-largest economy in the world, a founding member of both the EU and UN, and is a global center for the arts and humanities. Today, July Fourteenth, grab a baguette and raise a glass of the best French wine you can buy in celebration of the French Republic.
As a side note, France has a special place at the #1 spot on my bucket list thanks to the 24 Hours of LeMans race, though I would like to see the rest of the county too. The pictures I've seen are quite beautiful, and would be great to see them in person.
