He didn't think much of them after explaining that her mother was the Egyptian goddess of cats. He tried to think of what he knew of Egyptian myth, but considering it wasn't as concrete in it's explanations as Greek myths were, granted some myths were told differently but the stories all had the main similarities that tied them, Egyptian myths didn't have those as easy to define lines. So he got confused over what myth about Bast was more true than the other. Then he found that he didn't have to make much sense of her mother for a moment as she turned his own question back on himself. "My father is Epiales, Greek god of Nightmares" He explained to her, finding the irony in the fact that he was the farthest thing from someone's nightmare.

Astrid was a bit surprised and stared at Austin with brand new eyes. The had just met, but she was already picking his personality: He was an introvert and literate guy, seemed to be smart, and she would have guessed that he was a son of Athena or something. But... nightmares? "Whoa. Nightmares? Frankly, you're not as scary as I would expect." She said cautiously, afraid that it might somehow offend him. "But I'm sure you've got some cool sadist powers." She added with an evil smirk.
