Esmeralda
Belfiore
Name: Esmeralda Alessandra Belfiore. She was nicknamed Cleopatra because she's Egyptian, which led to the nickname she goes most often by: Cleo.
Age: 16
Gender: Female
Eyes: Glittering garnet-green.
Hair: Frizzy, dark brown with caramel highlights, cut in layers and flows past her shoulders in a waterfall of curls.
Height: 1m77
Body Type: Lean, defined hourglass shape.
Skin Color: Dark caramel.
God Parent: Aphrodite, goddess of love and beauty.
Mortal Parent: Rafael Belfiore
Country of Origin: Egypt. She was born in Cairo.
Pets: None.
Talents: Applying make-up, choosing the right clothes for her, flirting with boys. She is also very social and aware.
Weapon**: A sixty-centimeters-long Celestial Bronze dagger with a polished blade in which she can admire her reflection. The guard is coated in coffee-colored leather and styled to resemble a pair of bird wings. The pommel is shaped like a globe.
It's called 'Stiletto'.
Appearance: The first thing you notice when you look at Cleo are her great green eyes. They glitter like velvet, framed by thick, long eyelashes and give one the hypnotic impression of being totally present and attentive. Cloe's large eyes say 'I'm listening to you. I'm fascinated by what you're telling me.' Her irises are luminous and glossy and threaded with ochre around the pupil and blue around the iris.
Her skin is soft, it has the color of milk chocolate with caramel highlights. She has a pretty nubian nose and full lips that add to her innocent beauty. Her teeth are pale and regular. She has arched eyebrows, who are a bit too slim due to waxing, and high cheekbones. Her face is framed by her hair, which is naturally curly to frizzy, but she sometimes straightens it with an iron. Her body is very slim and proportionate, she has very long legs and nice curves.
Personality: Cleo is immensely sociable and drifts through life with ease. She's charming, refined, spontaneous and conciliatory, always eager to please. She's changeable, which means that her positive sides (her kindness, helpfulness, enthusiasm and tact) are outbalanced by her negative ones (impulsivity, quick-temper, flightiness, laziness).
She enjoys tasting life's pleasures, the adventures and discovery. She needs to be passionate about something, and when she is, she gets overexcited and hyperactive. She can be fussy in some areas, then totally lax in another, for example, she usually spends hours in the bathroom preparing herself and neglect the other, more important things.
Flaws: She daydreams a lot, she's a bit egotistical sometimes, she's finicky, hedonistic, she's prone to giddy and flighty behavior, easily distracted because of her light ADHD. She tends to be hypocritical, impatient, lazy and lying. She's a proud girl, tends to be theatrical, and is also vain, superficial, conceited and narcissistic, like most Aphrodite children.
She has too thin eyebrows and too small ears.
Abilities:
∆ Like every child of Aphrodite, she can speak French, because it's the language of love.
∆ She can communicate with doves, since they are the sacred animal of Aphrodite.
Powers(must relate to god parent; optional):
∆ Aura: Thrice a day, Cleo can surround herself with a red aura that will make her approach the beauty ideal of every person that is in sight range. She won't reach the beauty ideal of course, but her features will seem to change accordingly to their conception of beauty.
The aura spreads seventy centimeters around her, surrounding her in a kind of sphere. The aura lasts for five minutes maximum.
∆ She can make somebody loose the desire to attack her for ten minutes; this works on mortals, demigods, and monsters, but no gods, Titans and such. She is a bit tired after that. She can use this three times a day with a thirty minutes interval.
∆ Curses: As shown in the Demigod Files, Aphrodite children have the ability to cast curses. Cleo can do so as well. Her first curse is to inflict somebody with a horrible smell, like Aphrodite herself did with the women of Lemnos. She can curse somebody to have ridiculous make-up, and to have clothes three sizes too small. The curses last one hour maximum, and she needs to sit down a bit after having casted them.
She can cast only one curse per day. The victims have to be at maximum ten meters from her.
Limits:
>1st curse: it can be tuned down by perfume/deo after twenty minutes even though it'll still smell.
>2nd curse: the make-up can be progressively wiped away, starting from thirty minutes after the casting of the curse.
>3rd curse: the clothes can be changed after twenty minutes, but the new clothes will still look a bit small.
Life Before CHB*: Esmeralda was born on Mount Olympus and brought down by Zephyrus to Cairo to the house of Rafael Belfiore, an Italian mode designer Aphrodite had fallen in love with. Rafael Belfiore had called her Esmeralda for several reasons. First, because of her bright green eyes. Second for the story of the Hunchback of Notre-Dame by Victor Hugo; to Rafael, it is one of the most beautiful love stories (the actual story by Victor Hugo, not the remakes). Besides, Esmeralda was always referenced to as 'the Egyptian' in the book, which, seeing the daughter of Aphrodite was supposed to be born in Cairo, was quite suiting.
Esmeralda lived in Egypt for the first six years of her life. Then, the political situation became too tense for Rafael Belfiore, who decided to move to Milano, stayed there for two years, and then moved to Barcelona.
In Italy and Spain, in the 'ancient territories', Esmeralda drew the attention of the monsters living there, especially the katoblepones, when she went to Venice on various occasions, but no-one attacked her.
Fortunately, when she was eight, a boy from seventh grade turned out to be a satyr, and explained it to her father, who knew she was a demigod, but hadn't told her. Aphrodite had warned him it might be dangerous for her if she knew it, monsters could find her more easily; she also told him about Camp Half-Blood, saying it was near New York, and explaining him it was the only safe place on Earth for their daughter.
Rafael Belfiore let Esmeralda go with the satyr (he was called Marco), who led her to Camp.
RP Example*: Deciding what to wear was always the big challenge of the morning.
Esmeralda was looking at the clothes she had pulled out of her trunk and unto her bed. She was dressed in her fashionable white towel (over her lingerie garments), which she had artistically wrapped around her dark-skinned body, and was standing barefooted on the floor of the Aphrodite cabin. Her hair was still humid -- she would dry it later. Since she had just stepped out of the shower, she had the smell of her Japanese cherry blossom shower gel on her skin and the fragrance of her Madagascar vanilla shampoo in her hair.
Hmm, perhaps she should take this white dress from the new Tod's Spring collection. She took it and held it against her, looking at the large mirror in front of her, before passing it over her shoulder and onto her body. With pastel earrings and a necklace, it would look good. But which shoes should she put on? Not white ones, that looked dumb. Perhaps those red Gucci ones... But would their dark red tone match the pastel of her earrings and necklace? Aaaah.
Esmeralda took the white dress off and tried out a much shorter, red one. It was held by a large belt at her waistline, underlining her slim figure, and was puffed at the sleeves. She took off her necklace and earrings, and attached a string of orange amber beads around her neck. No, orange and red really didn't match.
Cleo took the dress back off and folded it neatly into her trunk, before putting on an airy white lace skirt which came up to her waistline, and a very short shirt with elbow-long sleeves. With the two of these garments, a stripe of her coffee-colored skin could still be seen, at her waist. Esmeralda tried out a different skirt, a grey one this time with glittering rhinestones at the hem, turned about once, decided against it and took it off. She tried on another skirt-and-shirt set, a pink one, but shook her head.
She came back to another lace skirt, a tight white one, which went from waistline until mid-thigh. With it, she put on the white shirt she had tried on earlier, the one with the elbow-long sleeves that was quite airy. The light fabric seemed to be stroking her skin like a breeze. She clasped a necklace around her dark neck that was set with a single, square chunk of turquoise, and matching earrings on her earlobes. With that, she took out some cyan Prada shoes that she attached with turquoise silk ribbons up her calves, maintaining it by a knot and made a pirouette in front of the mirror. Yes, she looked good.
She neatly folded all her clothes back into her trunk, and took hairbrush, curling iron and make-up bag out, positioning herself in front of the mirror. She brushed her frizzy hair, drying it with the hairdryer, and once she was done, took the curling iron into her hand. Her curling iron was the new one from Philips, which her father had given her. At first, she had been surprised because there was nothing to clip her hair in; but in the end, the result was very satisfying. It gave her curls a natural and wild aspect. It warmed up very quickly, so she didn't have to wait long, and started wrapping her streaks around it with expertise.
It didn't last long, and soon, a waterfall of beautiful silky curls fell down until her shoulder blades.
She applied a bronze-golden eye-shadow onto her eyelids with a brush, then drew a line of clear pastel just at the edge of her lids. Then, she lengthened her eyelashes with mascara and batted her eyelids to see the effect. Yes, it looked perfect.
She went to work on her mouth -- always a tricky part. She searched in her make-up bag until she found what she needed: one cream for the basis, a special brush for the lipstick, the lipstick, the liner pencil one shade deeper than the lipstick, a tissue, some powder and a larger brush.
She started by exfoliating her lips to get rid of the occasional dead skins, then applied a nourishing, hydrating balm onto them. Finally, to make the color uniform, she deposed a little bit of foundation on her mouth.
Next, she retraced the contour of her lips with the liner pencil, starting with the 'V' of the upper lip then going down to the corners. For the lower lip, she traced softly the contour from the middle to the exterior.
Taking out her Yves Saint Laurent lipstick, she stroked the fruity shade unto her lips with a special brush, starting again from the middle of her mouth to the corners. She pressed the tissue against her mouth, and repeated the operation; that way, the lipstick would hold longer.
To make herself full lips, she enhanced the shade of her mouth with a hint of gloss deposed at the centre of her lips.
She looked at herself in the mirror and smirked. The pearly hue made her smile sparkle with its pretty iridescent highlights.
Esmeralda finished by putting turquoise nail-polish onto her fingers, and spraying a hint of the intense but soft 'Sì' perfume by Giorgio Armani. She checked herself in the mirror a last time before leaving the cabin with the rest of her cabin mates to go to the Mess Hall.
Any notes about your characters:
∆ Esmeralda started modeling at the age of twelve. With her beautiful hair, innocent face and proportionate body, she attracted the attention of photographers and couturiers from quite a young age, even though, most of the time, she models for her father's company.
∆ She's portrayed by Noémie Lenoir.
