The Mess Hall

"Hi." said Mia.

Liam's eyes flashed briefly with uncharacteristic sorrow and anger. For a second, he wanted to snap at her, to tell her to drop the subject. He didn't act on the feeling; he wasn't really angry, he was just a bit moody. It had been raining for days, the sky grey and dark, heavy-laden with angry, thundering clouds: he always felt restless when the weather got like this. Being around people made it better, though. And almost as soon as the feeling had come, it vanish.

"Oh, no, no, no! Don't you go and worry about a thing like that," he told her, a gentle smile written on his face. "I'm not sure I even remember how to walk! Besides, I haven't even got the muscles to do it anymore!" He smacked his skinny, boney, legs with the back of his hand to emphasize the point. "And anyways, walking's boring. With this thing-" he gestured dramatically to the wheels of the chair. "I get to park in handicapped spots - - well, I mean the people driving me get to park there. I can't park there because I can't drive," he explained. Suddenly, he squeezed his eyes shut, threw his head back and laugh. "Can you imagine me trying to drive?" He asked, laughing. "Oh, goll that would be a mess! It would be so bad! It would be like...!" He was laughing to hard to finish his sentence. "I'm terrible with directions," he explained, as his laughter died down. "I get lost everywhere I go. Especially supermarkets. If I were driving, I'd end up in Topeka,"

"Anyways! Back to the point. Best part about a wheelchair? I get to cut to the front of the line at amusement parks,"

Mia leaves out of boredom.

Mia returns and sits somewhere.
