"Sorry, that's my job," I say. "Now please, go to sleep. You need to rest. You've had a traumatic day,"

"That was three days ago," Anatkah murmured as she slipped away. She was asleep before she could beg him not to leave her again.

I took he hand firmly in my own, gently stroking her hair while she slept.

Anatkah woke up after another vivid episode of dreams, screaming and sobbing uncontrollably.

I was only half asleep, when I heard Anatkah. I shot up like a rocket. "Anatkah!" I cried. I crawled up on the bed with her. I picked her up and set her on my lap, pressing her quaking body against my own. I wrapped my arms around her, rocking her back and forth. "Sh..." I whispered. "Sh, it'll be okay. You're safe. Sh, don't worry," I rubbed gentle circles on her back, and ran my fingers through her hair.

A nurse scrambles in and injects more morphine into her IV

Anatkah choked as the morphine hit her full on. Her throat constricted as the sobs that shook her were suddenly denied. Dem kept whispering to her, but she couldn't hear him. The rushing of her own blood filled her ears and the world suddenly seemed to tilt dramatically. With a little gasp, she slumped, unconscious again.

The nurse moved swiftly over to Demetrius, detaching him from the girl. "I'm afraid that you will have to leave now," she said firmly. The girl clearly had mental problems as well as physical ones and she felt a certain pity for her. The boy wasn't helping matters; he was just... there... so there was no need for him to stay any longer. She opened the door, looking pointedly at him. "Come along," she said.

The nurse sighed in apparent exasperation. Young love, it was so cute before it got ugly. "You can't stay here," she said unsympathetically. "She's mentally unstable and your presence here could injure her even more than she was to begin with."

The nurse shut the door behind him with a frown. Idiot boy, he should have left when she'd told him to. Scowling, she checked on the girl. Her injuries were severe, but with a little bit of luck, she'd be okay. She was uneasy though; morphine was addictive.

Several weeks later, Anatkah's arm was out of it's cast and her physical wounds had healed... but she was still paralyzed. She could use a wheelchair with varying degrees of success, but it was nothing like walking. She could always have gotten prosthetics, but she was in too much debt as it was. Wheeling herself over to the window, she stared outside dully. She missed Demetrius.

A tired-looking doctor greeted Demetrius on this day, the nurse being on her day off. "You're that young man she keeps going on?" he asked with a small smile, nodding towards the door. "Go on son, she'll welcome a chance to see you."

I grinned. "Th-thank you!" I walked in Anatkah's room

The doctor chuckled and walked down the hallway, looking for a water fountain.

Anatkah's head turned to the sound of the door opening. "Dem!" she cried, seeing him walk in. She turned the wheelchair and rolled over to him and stopped. She didn't know what to do. She was paralyzed, metaphorically and physically.

Anatkah wrapped her arms around his waist, burying her head in his hair. "I know, it's okay," she said. Her nightmares weren't going away, but she had only dim memories of them in the back of her mind thanks to the morphine that the nurse supplied her. She wasn't going to tell Demetrius, but she was starting on an addiction to the drug.

"I'm fine," Anatkah insisted, though she was touched by his promise. "Please, Dem, don't worry 'bout me. I was more worried 'bout you when they wouldn't let you in all those times." That and she was worried about what his reaction would be when he found out about the morphine.

I ran my fingers through her hair. "I-I know... But I just... I love you, and it's my job to worry," I said smiling softly

"It's cool," Anatkah murmured. "Just... don't go on worry overload or anything." She smiled faintly. "Hey, the doc said that I could leave today if you showed up. Guess I'm heading back to Camp."

"Really?" I asked. "Anatkah, that's great! That's wonderful!" I grinned. "ANd I even have something for you," I blushed

"What?" Anatkah asked, pulling back and looking up at him. "Aw, Dem; you shouldn't have," she said, blushing right along with him.

"Just wait til you see it!" I grin. A doctor took out her IV, stopping the Morphine.
