- Spoiler:
I stare, disbelieving, into the eyes of the goddess. What does she mean by war, and why has no one told me. I shake my head and back away, I can’t stay, I won’t stay. I swear, from this point on, I will do everything I can to make sure no one will win, even if that means sacrificing my own immortal life.
I back away from them slowly. No, no. I will never, never fight in…in a war. My mind repeats to me constantly. Why would I want to fight in a war? I am a pacifist, do pacifists like war? No, no we don’t. I need to get away from here, but I don’t know where to go. I’m stuck at the top of the great pyramids for the sake of the gods!
As I back away they try to stop me, try to get a hold of me. I take one step too far and hit air. They reach over the side, trying to help me, trying to make sure I don’t fall. It’s too late though, by the time they get to the edge, I’m already out of reach. I close my eyes, time to experience death.
I fall for what seems like forever. This is really what death feels like? I always thought there would be some weird underworld. From what I’ve recently learned, I was half expecting something underground with a war raging on between Hades and Osiris. I guess things truly aren’t what you imagine them to be.
I yawn, when am I going to stop falling. The first five seconds of the free fall were fun, but now it’s just boring a dull. I feel sorry for suicide kids, like well, me. I laugh slightly to myself. What am I supposed to do, just drift here, falling for all eternity? Oh no, I don’t think so. This stop better end…in….somewhere that’s NOT the dang air. I’m starting to get tired of this epic free fall.
I start to fall faster. I must be getting close to ground, or death. I hold my breath and start to count in my head. When I get to fifteen I hear a OMPH and open my eyes quickly. Some guy is holding me. What the heck? What did that happen!? I just form his arms quickly and stare at him.
“Who are you? How long have you been holding me, and why were you holding me!?” I demand from him. It’s bad enough when you’re falling, but finding that some weird guy around your own age has caught you? As if! No one would be able to handle that, not even the calmest of calm.
“Just calm down okay? You were falling, so I caught you just now. Are you okay?” He asks me slowly. I stare at him and look around. I smirk, California…by god it worked.
“Oh my god, thank you so much. You saved my life! I love you right now dude!” I say and hug him, “Now goodbye.” I turn and walk away, leaving him shrugging and walking the opposite direction. As much as I despise guys, I owe him something, he did save me…even if I am immortal. Maybe someday I’ll repay him, just not today.
I shove my hands in my pockets and look around. Wonder what city I’m in, actually, I wonder what day I’m in. I’ve been ‘out’ of the mortal world for what seems like only hours. I run a hand through my hair, how long have I been awake? I’m so sleepy, it’s like time moves faster in the immortal worlds of gods than it does here. People keep staring at me, do I look that odd? I look down at myself, eh, I could do with a shower, not to mention new clothes.
I sigh deeply, I have no weapons, which I know I will need if they actually intend to find me. I have to money, unless I rob a bank or find some way to get a job, but who is going to hire a child? I guess I could change my figure or something, make myself look like an adult, but I don’t really know how to do that yet. What am I supposed to do now? I’m alone with no one to go to, nothing to do. A woman, or teenager, she must not be much older than I am, comes up and starts walking beside me.
“Need some help? What about a place to stay or a change of clothes? I can help you if you like, my apartment isn’t far from here, and you seem lost.” She says to me cheerily. I smile lightly and look at her. Her skin, lightly, very white, is nearly white like that of a corpse or ghost. She’s almost transparent in a way, you can see right through her to her blood veins. Something isn’t right about her, but I’ve not got room to ask.
“That would be very, very nice of you. Are you sure that you can afford to lend me a hand?” I ask her, watching her. I may not be able to ask why she looks like that, but I can be suspicious. She nods slightly and grabs my hand, shooting me a smile. I run off with her, barely able to keep her pace right now.
We pass clothing stores, weave our way around restaurants, and skid to a stop every time we come across something interesting like a mall. She likes to shop, and now she’s shopping for me? She has me try on everything from hoodies, to jeans, to bikinis. During our ‘quest’, of sorts, for clothing, many shift people eye me, like they know a secret and are ready to attack me. Oh, if only I know what they truly think, what they truly want.
On our way to the girls apartment, I discover her name is Marley. I smile lightly, and don’t comment on the fact that her name is a very sad movie. We get to know each other abit, her learning false information about me, and me learning what could very well be false information about her.
Where we ended up took me by surprise, on her wall she had numerous swords and torture devices from the early civilizations of Greece, Rome, Egypt, and the such. She blushes scarlet when I gasp. Who knew this girl would be indulged in such…horrible affairs with weaponry. She gives me the go ahead to look around and as I start to explore I discover other weapons more commonly associated with the Norse, or Vikings. Maybe being a little suspicious of Marley is the way to go.
“You can use the spare room right over there, I don’t have guests over much, I’m not really the type for making friends, so you won’t have to worry about being disturbed or anything.” She says to me, smiling sickly. She has something on her mind, a dark, dark evil motive. I sigh and lay my new cloths down on the bed, if I can tap into the mind of gods, maybe I can tap into the mind of a mortal?
I lock the door and sit cross legged on the ground after lighting some incents I found in the dresser drawers. I concentrate, it’s simple to tap into the mind of someone when they want you to, like the trustful Egyptian gods who share and communicate that way, but a mortal who shields herself? This is going to be one hard cookie to crack.
After what seems like hours of prying and breaking through what seems to be
fire walls in her mind, I finally make it to what might just be her thoughts.
Okay, I have a guest, she seems right. I hope she’s the right girl, if she’s not I’m going to be in so much trouble. Wait, what…no, no, no, she’s in here, out, please get out now, OUT!
She shoves me out of her thoughts. Oh crap, this girl does have something planned, and is powerful enough to not only notice me, but shove me away. I have to get out of here now, and fast. I stand and, without grabbing anything that could help me through this, throw the bedroom door open. I run, trying to make it to the front door before she can catch me. When I get to the living room, it seems as though I’m free, that I’ll make it. Marley comes flying from another door I hadn’t noticed before.
She skids to a stop in front of me and reaches out to grab me, “You can’t leave. I won’t let you, if I do I won’t get paid, I’ll get in trouble, and I’ll lose my job. Do you want me to lose my job you idiot??” She asks me with a sneer. I start to wonder what happened to the Marley that brought me here, was she really putting on that good of an act?
Marley quickly grabs a sword from one of the stands beside the wall and raises it. She smirks at me like she’s smart, like she thinks that she’s going to win. Like she thinks I’m a helpless bird and she’s the school bully that likes to kill.
“Now, I believe it’s time to put you out of commission.” She hisses at me, revealing a forked tongue and sharp, shark like teeth. What is she, I’ve never seen anything like her before, not in books and certainly not even in my wildest dreams.
Marley charges at me and slashes. I have, barely, a minor second to move out of the way, yet her blade still grazes my shoulder. Pulling a sword from the wall, I counter her next attack, our blades clanging against each other in a shower of sparks.
“What the bloody heck are these made of!?” I demand from her.
“Why only the best my dear. It’s a silver and gold meld, melted together to form the godly metal. Its name is Kryptonite, named so because it is powerful enough to wound gods.” She says to me in a hiss like voice.
She strikes at me again, but her attack only bounces off my blade. I jab at her, cutting through her thigh before she has the chance to deflect me.
“Oh, Kryptonite, like Superman’s only weakness?” I joke, sneering at her. She’s kidding, gold and medal don’t even blend…do they?
“No dear, that Kryptonite is based purely off godly Kryptonite. Any substance can hurt gods, but if you want a substance that can hurt them like they’re human you want this. That’s the exact reason I’m using it against you, because it can and will hurt you like you’re mortal.” With a sneer she thrusts her sword out, in an attempt to hurt me.
I smile and jab at her other thigh. It slices into her skin with a sickening sound as blue green blood starts to come from the wound. While she’s shocked I take my chance and bolt for the door, barely making it through before she’s back on her feet and after me.
Quickly I rush down the hallway, shoving bystanders out of my way. I trip and fall halfway down the steps, cutting my leg and arms as I tumble with my sword. Finally I get my footing and run the rest of the way down the other four stories I haven’t fallen. Why the heck did she get an apartment on the eighth floor? Ah, yeah, probably to make it harder for me to escape.
Within seconds I’m away from the stairs and out the door, with ghost girl Marley tailing closely behind. How does a ghost bleed anyway? She’s not even a ghost probably. It seems as though she doesn’t like being away from any water. She’s so pale..and her skin and blood…that blue green tint…she’s a mermaid. There’s no other explanation.
Falling out of the door onto the sidewalk I get back up onto my feet and end up stopped in the middle of a crosswalk filled with foot-traffic. I turn every which way, but I can’t find her, and then…there she is, staking up towards me like she’s normal, like she’s human. She sickens me, completely, she deserves to die.
Our swords clash together from the moment she reaches me. I’ll strike one way, she’s strike the other, successfully dodging my attack. We’re like ballerina’s, putting on a dangerous show for the audience, though everyone knows we both live.
A crowd gathers around us silently, each person trying to get a better view. Cops force their way to the front of the crowd just to make sure this is stages and no one gets hurt, but that’s when she slices at my leg, and I’m left with a gash pouring blood.
“Jump back to the ocean Ariel.” I hiss at her through clinched teeth.
“Oh, smart come back from a little girl now isn’t it Emma. Nice to see you’ve paired me with the little mermaid, but I think Ariel and I are on different teams, wouldn’t you agree?” She hisses in that horrible voice of hers.
“Yeah, I guess I have to agree, but me and Ariel can agree on one thing.” I say to her, holding my sword tightly. I’m ready, and I’m going to do it.
“Really, what’s that?” the crowd gasps, I had almost forgot they can hear and see everything.
“It’s that you’ve got to die.” I say to her, striking up. After a sickening scream the crowd gasps, and then it’s just stunned silence. I actually did it.
